Two bald eagles were spotted on Great Neck South High School’s campus last week, making them the students’ newest feathered neighbors.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Teresa Prendergast said at a board meeting last Wednesday  that the school hopes the two birds will stay and nest. She described it as an opportunity for students that might someday be in learning curriculums.

The school says that it intends to comply with federal laws. While the bald eagle is no longer considered endangered, it is still protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. This bars anyone from harming, trapping, molesting or disturbing an eagle or its nest.
