The Great Neck Library Board of Trustees announced several new initiatives for 2019 and a pay raise for two administrators on Tuesday night.
The contracts of the assistant director, Tracy Van Dyne, and the business manager, Steven Kashkin, will be renewed at annual salaries of $105,000 per year – a 10.5 percent increase from their current $95,000.
Also, a full-time position has been created for a webmaster/marketing designer. Trustees said the library does not have adequate staff to handle this responsibility and that a part-time temporary person is now in place until a permanent professional is found.
In addition, resumes are being solicited for chair of the Ad Hoc Book Suggestion Committee and a posting was approved for a part-time librarian with STEM and technology background.
Rebecca Rosenblatt Gilliar, a Great Neck resident who pushed for the committee, said in a follow-up call on Wednesday that the committee will be playing an important role in building up the book collection following the renovation of the Main Library.
“The chairperson will select the committee among residents who have expertise in various areas and want to do this, because it’s going to be a big job,” Gilliar said, noting that it will be aiding librarians and working independently of the library board.
Trustees also discussed the need for two RTU skirts that will cover air conditioning units on the roof of the Main Library and also approved a $3,200 expenditure for pointing the bricks around the flagpole.
