While sleeping in his Russell Gardens home on Wensley Drive, a 72-year-old resident was awakened by his alarm system around 4 a.m. on Oct. 17 and spottedĀ  a homeless man on the second floor outside his bedroom, Nassau County police said.

The suspect, identified as Curtis Slyke, 29, removed an item from the man’s home and left the scene on foot, but responding officers found him walking near the intersection of Wensley Drive and Linford Road, the police reported. He was then taken into custody.

After his arrest, it was found that Slyke was allegedly responsible for two additional attempted burglaries that occurred on Oct. 17, according to police. One was in a residential home located on Linford Road in Great Neck and the other on Wensley Drive.

Slyke is charged with burglary and two counts of attempted burglary, police said. He was arraigned on Oct. 18, at First District Court.
