Sewanhaka Superintendent James Grossane thanked the district during his time in charge during his last report on the board of education Tuesday night.

Grossane, who is retiring on June 30, has been Sewanhaka’s superintendent since 2019, when he took over for Ralph Ferrie.

“I would just like to say thank you for making me feel so welcomed during my time serving the students, staff and families of the Sewanhaka Central High School District,” Grosssane said during his report. “It’s been my pleasure to work alongside all of you and I wish you all the best in the coming years.”

Prior to coming to Sewanhaka, Grossane was the superintendent of the Smithtown Central High School District for five years, of the Levittown School District, assistant to the superintendent for student support services in the Massapequa School District, principal of Massapequa High School and Washington Street in Franklin Square.

Board of Education Vice President William Leder read a distinguished service resolution for Grossane that was put into the record Tuesday night.

“Be it resolved that the board of education deeply appreciates the outstanding services rendered to the school district and expresses a sincere wish for his continued good health and happiness,” Leder read.

Grossane will be replaced by Interim Superintendent Thomas Dolan on July 1, who will serve until the board finds a permanent replacement.

Dolan most notably served as the superintendent of the Great Neck School District from 2009 to 2015 and has been interim superintendent of the Locust Valley School District.

He also led the Franklin Square Elementary District as superintendent, was an assistant superintendent in the Manhasset and Sewanhaka school districts, and served as principal of Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Sr. High School and Franklin Square’s H. Frank Carey Jr./Sr. High School.

Prior to his retirement from the Great Neck schools, Dolan led Nassau Community College for a year as its interim president and taught at Hofstra University, LIU-C.W. Post and Queens College.

The next meeting for the Sewanhaka Board of Education will be Tuesday, July 11.
