A new test preparation and tutoring center is opening next month in Manhasset.

C2 Education will open a new location at 1350 Northern Blvd. in Manhasset in May, offering tutoring for standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, PSAT and Regents as well as subject area tutoring.

C2 founders David Kim and Jim Narangajavana opened their first location in Maryland in 1997 and currently have locations in Roslyn, Carle Place, Rockville Centre, Plainview, Syosset, Jericho, Stony Brook and Commack as well as Bayside and Little Neck in Queens.

With the opening of this location, the center will bring more than 30 full- and part-time jobs to the area.

Jennifer Lee, who serves as center director for the Stony Brook location and will also direct the Manhasset location, said the company is branching out into the Long Island market because of the advanced students across the island’s school districts.

“I think what truly sets C2 apart is the center teams,” Lee said. “We all work together to serve our families. There is a center director who leads the teachers as well as the program lead, and we work together to track progress and have open communication on a monthly basis so students are always aware of how they are progressing, what the next steps are and how to achieve that next milestone.”

The center begins every student with a diagnostic test to determine a base level of skills and establish a customized curriculum for each student. The student-to-teacher ratio is 3-to-1, Lee said, but the instruction is one on one within the group.

Lee said many of her Stony Brook parents are frustrated because their child is intelligent but doesn’t know where to start or how to begin studying without becoming overwhelmed and giving up.

In addition to the center’s educational impact on the region, the company also shows its commitment to the community with the C2 Community and School Giveback Program.

The program provides a variety of events and offerings such as free homework help, workshops, complimentary college planning services via the College Roadmap program, free SAT and ACT practice tests, as well as local scholarship opportunities and community celebrations.

“With the recent increase in the competition for college admissions, something that helps us stand out is a college road map, where we start with our families through the process of SAT prep and subject tutoring, but we help them see the bigger picture to start planning to get into that top choice school,” Lee said.

In 2017, 749 C2 students accepted admission to the top 50 national universities, with 49 more at top 50 liberal arts colleges. C2 has also helped students gain access to competitive STEM college programs with 208 students accepted at top 10 engineering universities.
