Thank you, Mindy Germain, Port Water District commissioner, and ReWild Long Island for creating the Sustainable Garden Tour. The Port Washington Water District, as part of its “Do It for Port” water conservation campaign, invited PW residents to take place in a show and tell of some of our neighbors’ Earth friendly landscapes.
It was well worth my time. My husband and I spent a glorious morning learning about native plant gardening, picking up water conservation tips and connecting with our environmentally conscious neighbors.
In our own home, we are composting, using a water barrel, and are finally in the process of purchasing a smart controller for our irrigation system (we are eligible to receive a $150 rebate through the PWWD!). We will be saving on our water bills and protecting our sole source aquifer in our lovely coastal community of Port. And if we can do it, anyone can. It is so easy.
I hope this Sustainable Garden Tour 2022 becomes an annual event in Port, and like a beautiful perennial garden, spreads across all of Nassau County.
