On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will host its annual Rummage and Bake Sale The church is located at 12 Franklin Ave. in Port Washington, and there is ample parking at the Port Washington Train Station nearby.

The sale begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 2:00 p.m.

This sale is a continuation of a decades-long tradition of the church fair. Each year the congregants regularly bring in their “attic treasures” in preparation for this annual event.

Whether it’s an item that is no longer needed or an entire household that is being downsized, each year a plethora of items are arranged in the basement of the church, ready for perusal.

Eager shoppers wait outside until the doors open promptly at 9:00. Within minutes, prime items are being gathered by the smart shoppers, and they often leave loaded down with bargains.

Children enjoy checking out the toy section, and adults find items they may need or simply want to own.

The other half of the fun of a church sale is the camaraderie of the parishioners. Teams have been working for months in preparation of the big day, and everybody has a job to do on sale day.

The packing team carefully wraps breakables so your items make it home intact. Organizers constantly rearrange the tables so that every item has a chance to shine and be chosen.

Others roam the floor to answer questions and assist with gathering your items. The costume jewelry section is artfully arranged to highlight the unique pieces and great values, and you may wish to try on items before purchasing. The rummage and bake Sale creates a fun atmosphere for shoppers and workers.

On the way out of the church, be sure to stop in the entryway where the baked goods will be displayed. The many talented cooks prepare edible goodies for sale. Plan to be at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Port Washington on Saturday, September 23rd for fun and bargains.
