Readers Write: Deborah Brooks needed at this critical time

We are writing to urge our fellow Port Washington residents to re-elect Deborah Brooks to the Board of Education.

This is a critical time for the Port Washington School District. Over the past year, our superintendent, Dr. Michael Hynes, and the school board have been hard at work revitalizing our schools.

For example, they have recently hired a new assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment, and a new principal for Schreiber. Both will start this summer which gives the district a chance to chart a new course.

Now, more than ever, we need an experienced educational leader like Deborah to ensure that we can attain excellence in education for all of our children while maintaining fiscal responsibility for the community.

In these uncertain times, curriculum and instruction will require continuous analysis and improvement. Deborah wants to ensure that education works for every student and for every family. With the Superintendent and other Board Members, Deborah has prepared a proposed budget for next year that spends money wisely and efficiently.

We have known Deborah through our work together on educational and community issues. She is a highly successful educational advocate who will continue to be a great resource for the community and for our administrators and teachers.

Every day we see many young children in our neighborhood whose families moved to Port Washington because of our schools. We owe it to them to have someone with Deborah’s knowledge, expertise, and experience to represent us all on our Board of Education. Please join us in voting for Deborah Brooks in the School Board elections on May 17th at Weber Middle School.
