Readers Write: Memories of Elvis at the Nassau Coliseum

Let me start off with the fact I work for Northeast Plumbing in Mineola as a shipping clerk. Well, I was packing plumbing supplies to be shipped to our customers in the New York area. We use old newspapers to pack our supplies.

The other day I was packing with a Newsday newspaper that was dated Sunday, Feb. 6 and was displaying pictures and details of various events that took place at the Nassau Coliseum.

Now one of the events was that of Elvis Presley in concert in June 1973.

Well, I was there with my then girlfriend named Joanie. It was a great concert. My girlfriend wanted a better view and I then bent down so she could get on my shoulders and get a better view.

Elvis sang his most popular songs and included. ” Blue Swede shoes.” At the end of the concert the lights went out and the announcer said,” The King has left the building.”

A few months later I joined the U.S. Navy. This is one memory that I will always cherish. You see Elvis Presley loved his fans and it showed when he performed his music.
