Readers Write: Rosen’s bookshelves a bad sign for G.N. Plaza

Is Mr. Ted Rosen, the current part-time mayor of Great Neck Plaza, overwhelmed with excessive responsibilities beyond his job as a mayor?  It seems that it might be the case.

Does/can he handle his highly demanding job as a mayor with the proper dedication?

I watched the two ZOOM debates (in 2020 and 2022, approximately 1.5 years apart) between Ted Rosen (currently the incumbent mayor) and Leonard Katz (contender for mayor position).

In the 2020 debate, Mr. Rosen acknowledged that in addition to running for mayor of Great Neck Plaza, he concurrently had (at least) 5 other positions/jobs.

For anyone who watched, it was hard to miss Mr. Rosen’s disorganized bookshelves in the background during both of the ZOOM debates.  I took screenshots from both events (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKfgREXIUF4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytu6XuIVkm4).

Remarkably, the positions of the disorganized books had not changed even by a bit from 2020 to 2022.

Nothing was straightened, moved or reorganize during the 1.5 years.  The only noticeable change in the background was a chair filled with clutter (on the right side of the screen and left of Mr. Rosen).

The very fact that Mr. Rosen did not bother to organize at least the books on his bookshelves, even minimally, in 1.5 years, is quite alarming.

While having the ZOOM meetings, he can see what is going on in the four ZOOM screens.  He is aware of the noticeable messy background behind him.  He could at least have spent 15 minutes organizing the bookshelves prior to the second meeting.

Probably he is too busy with many responsibilities which he has acknowledged (litigator, arbitrator, professor, involvements in various organizations) doesn’t let allow him to spend 15 minutes in 1.5 years to organize his bookshelves.  Or, maybe he has difficulty with getting things organized.

The traffic in Great Neck Plaza is the same way as Mr. Rosen’s bookshelves, chaotic, vehicles in cockeyed positions while crossing the lines to pass double-parked vehicles.  The incidents of pedestrian accidents in Great Neck Plaza are the highest in the entire Nassau County.

We deserve better than that.  We need people with more organizational skills and decisions than Mr. Rosen.

I know Leonard Katz quite well.  He is a very responsible individual.  He is very dedicated to the tasks that he gets involved in.  I am certain that the trustees he has chosen are highly competent.

Vote on March 15 for Leonard Katz (mayor), Jason Hertz (trustee), and Ruomei Hu (trustee).

  1. Are you seriously going to judge the Mayor based on his disorganized bookshelf? We may as well judge Mr. Katz by his messy combover or the color of his suit. But that is NOT the way to judge a candidate. Mayor Rosen’s accomplishments and dedication to the village since he took office in the middle of a global pandemic are outstanding. If he’s been too busy to re-organize his bookshelf, what of it? Based on his performance as Mayor, he deserves to be re-elected.
