Readers Write: Vote for the Revive Great Neck Plaza team

Harry Truman once said “the reward of suffering is experience.”

Notably, our current mayor in Great Neck Plaza, Ted Rosen, is asking Great Neck Plaza residents to accept his experience as the justification for his re-election.

In truth, the opposite is more befitting: “suffering is the reward for the experience.” When Mr. Rosen referred to “experience” as the slogan for his campaign, he was referring to his own “experience” and not the village residents’ experiences while he has been the mayor.

The residents of no villages on the Great Neck peninsula, other than Great Neck Plaza, had “experienced” a tax hike of 5.5% in a single year. The exorbitant 5.5% tax hike only occurred during one year of Mr. Rosen’s mayoral term. How is it that the residents of the Old Village (Village of Great Neck) practically did not experience any tax hikes in 6 years?

The traffic in Great Neck Plaza has been another “suffering experience” for the residents. The traffic lights are not properly sequenced. The police are not ticketing the double-parkers. Instead, their focus has been on expired meters.

Moreover, the sidewalks in Great Neck Plaza are in a dangerous state and the residents’ experiences have been neglected. According to the published statistics by Nassau County, countywide, the risk of getting hit or killed by a car while crossing the street is highest in Great Neck Plaza.

Why? Are Mr. Rosen and the incumbent team deserving of our votes in the upcoming election?

The team that is challenging the incumbents on March 15 consists of Leonard Katz, Jason Hertz, and Ruomei (Margaret) Hu.

They are competent and have the proper backgrounds for the issues at hand. Leonard Katz is an expert in budgeting and financial expenditure. Jason Hertz, P.E., MBA, is a licensed engineer and has a highly technical background. He would be instrumental in resolving the Great Neck Plaza’s infrastructure issues such as traffic, roads, sidewalks and bridges. Ruomei Hu, MBA, has an extensive background in finance and accounting.

They all will be major assets for Great Neck Plaza. Please vote for the team with competence. The incumbents have had their chance and they have not been up to the task.
