H. Frank Carey High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District was recognized as a W!se Blue Star School for the 2021-22 school year. W!se is a national educational non-profit dedicated to improving economic mobility through programs that develop financial literacy and readiness for college and careers.

Each year, students enrolled in a Career and Financial Management class take the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test. Upon passing, students become Certified Financially Literate. To earn the W!se Blue Star School award, a school must achieve an 80 percent passing rate on the test.

Additionally, Jennifer Lehmann, the chairperson of business and technology at Carey, received the W!se Financial Literacy Gold Star Teacher Award. To earn this award, a teacher’s class must have achieved a 93 percent passing rate on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test.
