The Roslyn High School girls’ volleyball team hosted their Spike Out Cancer game on Oct. 25. The game is held annually to raise awareness and to honor those who are battling, recovering and have been lost to breast cancer.

This year, the event was extra special for the team because their head coach, Tara Berkowitz, is currently battling cancer.

“The amount of love and generosity that I felt in the gymnasium during the game is something I will forever hold near and dear to my heart,” Berkowitz said. “With the help of the team and the Roslyn community, I am ready to ‘fight the fight.’”

Since 2015, the Roslyn team has invited a different school to participate in their annual event. This year they competed against Baldwin.

Together, they raised money, promoted positivity and helped provide cancer education.

The $3,600 raised will be donated to The Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude’s Children’s Foundation and the Maureen Timony Scholarship Fund through the Bulldog Booster Association.
