Imran Ansari has worked in Long Island government, politics, and government relations since 2013, after graduating from Hofstra University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.

His first professional stop was in the Office of Congressman Steve Israel as his executive assistant. Since then, he has worked for Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, before leaving government service.

He handled scheduling, constituent affairs, and social media for Legislator Sarah Anker. While working for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, he oversaw community outreach projects, and was part of the intergovernmental relations team that liaised between the county executive and the Suffolk County Legislature.

Imran served as the Nassau County Regional Representative for New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. In this role, he was responsible for keeping the Governor and senior staff informed of all key local current events, representing the Governor at events, and staffing the Governor on visits to Long Island.

After leaving government service, Imran worked for Discover Long Island as their vice president of community engagement.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was responsible for communicating with key regional stakeholders and local hospitality businesses.

He handled keeping Discover Long Island’s partners informed in regards to various funding opportunities to help assist with pandemic-related financial struggles. He also led efforts to get state Tourism Recovery Improvement District legislation introduced in 2020, and then again in 2021.

Imran has served as the political director for the Long Island Federation of Labor since July of 2021. In this role, he works on political and legislative projects. He also oversees the organization’s role in the campaigns of labor’s endorsed candidates.

Imran attributes his professional success to his desire to work in roles that will make a difference in the lives of Long Islanders.

Since early in life, he has known that he wanted to pursue a career in public service, and has always used the desire to serve his neighbors as his guiding principle. In the labor movement, he has been able to focus on improving the lives of working people every day.
