The Williston Park Little League will host its opening day parade on Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. This will be the first Little League parade since the COVID-19 pandemic began and it will be followed by a softball tripleheader.

This will be the first opening day ceremony with new lights at Kelleher Field. The village and Williston Park Little League are splitting the cost of adding the lights, which was about $6,000.

The parade will start on Broad Street in front of Frantoni’s, turn right onto Hillside Avenue, then right onto Willis Avenue before turning right onto Dartmouth Street and then left onto Broad Street. The parade will finish following a right onto Yale Street, where it will go to Kelleher Field.

After the parade, the opening day ceremony will begin and attendees will be provided food before the games begin at 1 p.m.

“I would encourage everybody to come out to the parade. We haven’t had it in a couple of years now because of the virus,” Mayor Paul Ehrbar said at the village board meeting Monday night. “It will be exciting to come out and cheer on the kids.”

Also, the village’s beautification committee is celebrating Earth Day with “Little Make a Difference Day” on Saturday, April 9. The committee will provide garbage bags and gloves but not rakes and shovels, according to a news release. Groups will be assigned to different public areas and the village is only asking for an hour or two of volunteers’ time. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. in the Village Hall parking lot.

Over 6,000 eggs will be up for grabs as Williston Park Recreation hosts its annual Easter egg hunt. Families are asked to meet at Kelleher Field at noon on Sunday, April 10, and to bring a basket.

During public comments at the board meeting, former Mayor Doreen Ehrbar congratulated her husband, Mayor Paul Ehrbar, Trustees Kevin Rynne and Bill O’Brien, and Village Justice Kevin Kiley on their re-election on March 15.

The village’s reorganization night will take place Monday, April 4. The next meeting for the Williston Park Board of Trustees will take place on Monday, April 18.
