Williston Park’s recreation committee will be hosting the village’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration at village hall at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11.

Deputy Mayor Kevin Rynne said there will be music, crafts and Irish step dancers.

“Everyone in the village is more than welcome to kick off with us the celebration,” Rynne said during the Monday night board meeting.

Trustee William O’Brien said the village’s Little League parade will take place on Saturday, April 1. The route will end at Kelleher Field where the five-member board of trustees will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, something O’Brien said is “always humorous.”

O’Brien added there will be food and refreshments after the ceremony while something new this year are tables for the local sponsors if they choose to participate and generate some business for themselves.

In unrelated village news, the board unanimously passed a local law that allows them to override the 2% tax levy limit for next fiscal year’s budget, something Mayor Paul Ehrbar said is common practice ahead of budget season.

“The expectation is we’re going to work hard to stay under the 2% tax cap,” Ehrbar said. “But in case we go over, we have to put this rule on the books.”

The next meeting for the Williston Park Board of Trustees will be Monday, March 20.
