Navigating the intricate landscape of civic duty, Grant Newburger, a proud Long Islander who grew up in Sands Point and Upper Brookville before laying down roots in Glen Cove, stands out as a dedicated professional with a rich tapestry of experience in public service and political engagement.

Currently representing the Nassau Suffolk Building Trades, his trajectory is marked by a profound commitment to community, effective communication, and strategic leadership.

His professional journey began in 2013 when he joined the office of state  Assemblyman Charles Lavine in Glen Cove.

This formative experience laid the groundwork for subsequent roles, allowing him to assimilate into the dynamic world of public service, issue advocacy, and community outreach. In that first professional environment he had the honor and privilege to work on a piece of Alzheimer’s research legislation that opened his eyes to just how many people can be helped by the scale of legislative reach.

Serving as outreach coordinator in the same office in 2016 and 2017, Newburger not only honed his skills in policy research and event coordination but also took on the responsibility of mentoring a team of interns.

This dual role allowed him to contribute significantly to Assemblyman Lavine’s legislative efforts while fostering the development of emerging talents in the political landscape.

Eager to broaden his horizons, Newburger contributed to the district office of Congressman Steve Israel in 2014 and 2015.

Here, his responsibilities extended to federal grant research, constituent casework, and outreach efforts. This experience exposed him to the multifaceted world of federal policy. 2014 also saw Newburger actively involved in the reelection campaign of Representative Steve Israel.

On the campaign, he played a pivotal role in voter outreach, intern recruitment, and event planning, demonstrating his commitment to the democratic process at both the grassroots and legislative levels.

In January 2018, Newburger assumed the role of legislative aide in the office of Nassau County Legislator Arnold Drucker. Working closely with Legislator Drucker and senior team members, he delved into policy research and community event coordination. This experience further refined his understanding of local governance and community needs.

Transitioning to the City of Glen Cove in March 2019 as the Public Relations Officer for Mayor Timothy Tenke, Newburger undertook the role of communications director. In this capacity, he wrote press releases, organized press conferences, and managed public-facing materials, contributing to the effective communication of the mayor’s initiatives.

The journey in the political arena reached a pinnacle in March 2020 when Newburger became the political aide to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, working for the Curran for Nassau campaign.

As the sole member of the political department, he cultivated relationships with key stakeholders, coordinated organized labor networks, and played a central role in messaging amplification and field capacity enhancement.

Serving as the political scheduler for County Executive Curran, he was the linchpin for down-ballot candidate interactions, fundraisers, and outreach initiatives within targeted constituencies.

Building on this rich foundation, Newburger’s current role with the Nassau Suffolk Building Trades encapsulates his dedication to advancing the interests of the labor community.

Spearheading strategic political initiatives, he works tirelessly to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of the Building Trades here on Long Island are effectively represented in the ever-changing political landscape.

Beyond the political realm, Newburger is characterized by a strong desire to help others.

This altruistic commitment is woven into the fabric of his professional journey, driving him to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of the community.

In essence, Newburger’s journey reflects a steadfast commitment to public service, community empowerment, and effective governance, anchored in the pursuit of a more equitable and engaged society.
