Democrats for the Town of North Hempstead Town Board have announced four priority initiatives for 2022 “to build upon the sterling example of good government that was established throughout the tenure of Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.”

Quality of life, sustainability, economic development as well as transparency and access were named by Councilmembers Robert Troiano, Peter Zukerman, Veronic Lurvey and Mariann Dalimonte as initiatives designed to enhance the wellbeing of North Hempstead residents.

“As we forge ahead into this next phase of Town government, we recognize that it is imperative to protect the progress that has been made in the past several years,” said Lurvey. “My colleagues and I have been extremely proactive during the first few months of this year, devising a plan to ensure that we are not distracted from serving our residents as our number one priority. The Town has done an excellent job making significant advancements to our infrastructure, increasing opportunities for businesses to thrive in a challenging landscape, and prioritizing programs and initiatives that create a sustainable and resilient local environment for generations to come. I want to reassure our residents that our commitment to the Town will persist as we continue working hard to keep North Hempstead moving forward.”

Improvements for quality of life include installing a parks conservancy, traffic safety implementations and a kids educational media program for North Hempstead T.V., among others. Various infrastructure projects including North Hempstead Beach Park, Manorhaven Beach Park and Fuschillo Park were named among the many that will be focused on.

Tree planting, shellfish restoration and drainage improvements were named among plans for sustainability. Climate change and new electric charging stages across town were also mentioned in the statement.

“North Hempstead is a truly phenomenal place to live, and we are constantly looking for ways to further enhance the quality of life for our residents,” said Zuckerman in a statement. “We are hitting the ground running in 2022, ensuring that our Town stays on the right track.”

The four members plan to host roundtable meetings with chambers of commerce and increase direct outreach through communication and social media for economic development, transparency and access.

Troiano, Zuckerman, Lurvey, and Dalimonte make up four of the seven-person Town Board, which includes Republican Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Councilmen David Adhami and Dennis Walsh. Since January, the Town Board has clashed on a number of topics, often voting along party lines.

Democratic council members have clashed repeatedly with DeSena since she became the first person running as a Republican to be elected in North Hempstrad.

“I am extraordinarily proud of what our team has accomplished thus far, but we recognize there is so much left to do,” said Dalimonte. “We are now charting the course for the Town’s future, remaining focused on what really matters to the residents of North Hempstead.”
