Courtney Tricarichi-Funk is a distinguished professional whose career spans across education, business, and gaming, marked by a deep commitment to fostering knowledge and creativity.

Holding a bachelor of arts in psychology from Hofstra University, and a master of business administration and master of philosophy in information sciences from Long Island University, Courtney is currently nearing the completion of her doctor of philosophy in information sciences.

The culmination of Courtney’s academic pursuits is reflected in her doctoral work.

In her proposed dissertation, titled “Unveiling Inequities: Exploring Systemic Barriers and Missed Opportunities for Neurodivergent Individuals in Higher Education,” she explores the complexities of neurodiversity.

Neurodiversity refers to a range of neurological variations that significantly impact cognitive functioning, learning, and social interaction. Courtney’s research is driven by a deep concern for the pronounced inequities faced by neurodivergent individuals in the higher education system.

She critically examines the discriminatory nature of standardized entrance examinations and the inadequacies within educational infrastructures to support the unique needs of these students. Her work not only highlights these critical issues but also aims to initiate a transformative dialogue in educational policies and practices.

This Ph.D. research underlines Courtney’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and equity in education.

Here, she imparts her extensive knowledge to students and professionals, guiding them through complex subjects and fostering an environment of intellectual growth.

Additionally, at Long Island University, Courtney is known for her active involvement in student life, advising clubs such as the Society for Human Resource Management and the Startup Society.

This engagement reflects her commitment to student development beyond the classroom, helping shape well-rounded individuals.

Courtney’s professional experience is as diverse as it is profound. She co-founded Legendary Realms Games and Terrain, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for gaming.

This venture not only showcases her creativity but also her ability to transform a hobby into a successful business venture. Additionally, her role as an Expo co-runner for the Long Island Tabletop Gaming Expo further cements her standing in the gaming community, demonstrating her skills in event management and community engagement.

Perhaps one of the most impactful chapters in Courtney’s career was her tenure as the associate center director at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes.

In this role, she worked closely with neurodivergent children, including those diagnosed with dyslexia and hyperlexia. Her work involved tailored educational programs, helping children overcome learning difficulties and unlocking their full potential.

Her peer-reviewed works, including “Escape to Fun: A Usability Study” and “The Effect of Birth Order on Personality and Leadership” in the Journal of Organizational Psychology, reflect her in-depth exploration of information sciences and organizational psychology.
